Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to review simulation results with a SIMCON representative virtually?

Yes – we hold virtual meetings in Microsoft Teams. You can join individually or as a group via a conference facility to view and discuss Cadmould simulation results with a SIMCON expert in real time.

What information do I need to set up an injection moulding simulation in Cadmould?

To run a simulation with Cadmould, you’ll need a 3D CAD model of the part and, if possible, the mould components, along with material data such as the polymer type and grade. You’ll also need process parameters including injection speed, melt and mould temperature, cooling system layout, and packing pressure. In addition, mould and machine constraints like clamping force, gate locations, and cycle time are required. If any of these details are unclear or not yet available, our team can assist you in setting up the model.

Is simulation and Design of Experiments (DoE) worth it for my application?

Simulation and DoE offer numerous advantages that apply across different applications and production types. They help reduce costs by detecting errors early, which lowers the need for tool changes and minimizes rejects. At the same time, they save time by determining optimum process parameters before tool tests even begin. Quality is improved as well, since issues like distortion, incomplete filling, and sink marks can be minimized. With VARIMOS, DoE makes it possible to identify stable process windows, which increases production reliability. Simulation is also particularly valuable in smaller series, where it can prevent costly mistakes and ensure error-free production. We would be pleased to advise you individually on your specific application.

Which industries use your simulation solutions?

Our solutions support a wide range of industries that rely on plastic injection moulding, such as automotive, where lightweighting and functional components are key, and medical and healthcare, where precision parts, microfluidics, and devices are essential. We also serve consumer goods, including packaging, appliances, and wearables, as well as electronics, with applications like connectors, housings, and insulation. In addition, we support industrial and aerospace sectors that depend on high-performance plastics and structural parts. If you manufacture plastic parts using injection moulding, we can help you improve quality, reduce costs, and accelerate time-to-market.

What are the benefits of using plastic injection moulding simulation?

Simulation offers many benefits for anyone working with plastic injection moulding. It helps prevent defects by identifying potential issues such as air traps, weld lines, and sink marks before production begins. At the same time, it reduces costs by lowering the need for physical prototyping, which saves both material and tooling expenses. Simulation also supports cycle time optimization by determining the best processing parameters to minimize cycle times and increase efficiency. Quality is improved as well, since warpage and shrinkage can be predicted and mitigated early on. Finally, it contributes to sustainability by reducing material waste and energy consumption through optimized designs and processes.

If want to use Simulation as a Service, how will I know which simulation service I require?

When you request a quotation, our team will discuss your goals and recommend the most suitable simulation package. We offer Flow Analysis (gate positions, melt flow, weld lines), Holding/Packing Analysis (clamp force, shrinkage, sink marks), and Cooling Analysis (cycle time, mould surface temperature, freeze time).
